Service members who had problems suspending or terminating Verizon Wireless service for a deployment or have found out that Verizon continued to charge their account while they were deployed, may have had their rights under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act violated.

The SCRA allows service members to terminate cell phone, internet and cable contracts if they receive military orders to move to a location that is not supported by the service, and the orders are for 90 days or more.

Service members who believe Verizon may have violated their rights should contact the Civil Rights Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey at (855) 281-3339 or e-mail USANJ.Civilrightscomplaint@usdoj.gov.
