An assembly May 21 at Eisenhower Elementary School celebrated exceeding the spring book sale sales goal. Students contributed donations during the sale to vote for the stunt they wanted to see - teachers sprayed with silly string, teachers dancing the "Harlem Shake, or Miller being duct taped to the gymnasium wall. The donated funds purchased books for the Alliance Against Family Violence. The book sale goal of $8,000 was exceeded by nearly $1,000. Funds help purchase new materials for the library, as well as provide a program by a professional illustrator in the fall.

Events to mark Army Environmental Awareness Day and Army Earth Day took place May 2 at the Frontier Conference Center on Fort Leavenworth. Students from all the schools on post were treated to displays, performance and hands-on interactions throughout the day.

The Command and General Staff School offered a weapons familiarization class for military history instructors May 4 at the Frontier Army Museum. The Training and Doctrine Command certification course is offered twice each year for military history instructors by the Combat Studies Institute.

The Fort Leavenworth Historic Homes Tour, to benefit Friends of the Frontier Army Museum, is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4.
