Since opening for business in February 2009, the Ruby Slippers Shoppe has been a real success story for the Fort Leavenworth Spouses’ Club. Located on the corner of Organ Avenue and E. Warehouse Road, this delightful shop boasts an exciting array of original gift ideas, including jewelry, military and branch insignia products, plus many unique handcrafted items.
As well as year-round favorites like Hooah pins, Armed Expressions merchandise and handmade scented soaps, there are lots of distinctive seasonal items that are also popular with customers.
“I like getting unusual gifts for my friends and family, and I always find something different at Ruby Slippers,” said one Fort Leavenworth resident.
However, a visit to the Ruby Slippers Shoppe isn’t just an opportunity to purchase some fantastic home décor items or even that special gift you can’t find anywhere else — it’s also a guarantee that you will be helping others in your community. Profits from the shop go directly to the FLSC’s Community Assistance Fund, which supports active-duty personnel, veterans and the families of both, by allocating annual grants and sponsorship awards to local charities, groups and organizations. In 2009, grants given by the Community Assistance Fund included Fisher House, the Leavenworth High School Band, the Exceptional Family Member Program, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Leavenworth chapter of the American Red Cross.
The Ruby Slippers Shoppe is the only place you can purchase the beautiful Fort Leavenworth “anniversary” collector basket. Expertly hand woven in elegant maple, these distinctive limited edition 2010 baskets include a brass tag, star tack covers, highly detailed Lewis and Clark Center laser-etched lid and plastic protector. Made exclusively for FLSC by the American Traditions Basket Company in Canal Fulton, Ohio, the anniversary basket is of heirloom quality and comes with a lifetime warranty once registered.
Store Manager Shari Mullins is very excited about the recently introduced customer Loyalty Cards and can’t wait for newcomers to visit the shop to collect their Loyalty Card.
“For every $15 customers spend, we’ll stamp their Loyalty Card, and when they have five stamps, we’ll give them $5 off their next purchase,” she said. “It is an excellent way to get a little something back for yourself while supporting your community at the same time. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Run entirely by volunteers, the shop is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and the first Saturday of every month. After just one visit, you, too, will be saying, “There’s no place like the Ruby Slippers Shoppe.”
