School officially began Aug. 13 for the students of Unified School District 207, which means parents need to keep track of the schoolyear calendar, sporting events, lunch menus and more. Thanks to the new “Fort Leavenworth USD 207” app, all of that information is now available at their fingertips.
“The purpose of the app is to quickly and easily connect our parents with information and resources that USD 207 provides,” said Matt Dixon, USD 207 technology media specialist. “Military families have a lot going on. My hope is to provide easy access and communication with schools by putting it on their smartphones. … The app acts as a one-stop shop for parents in the district.”
The free app, which is available for all Android, iPhone and Google devices, includes access to Skyward, the school management software; breakfast and lunch menus; 360 virtual tours of each school; Revtrak, the school lunch payment processor; employment opportunities; school calendars; a bus compass, which allows parents to receive notifications about delays, cancellations, pick-ups and drop-offs; and links to USD 207 social media accounts.
Keith Mispagel, USD 207 superintendent of schools, said the app comes in handy for the faculty and staff as well.
“The idea for the app was specifically as a way to help support the ever-advancing mobile world we live in, which for me centers around my cell phone,” Mispagel said. “I can monitor e-mail, meetings, news and multiple calendars.”
Dixon said his hope for the success of the app is simple.
“My hope is that the app will function as a utility for parents to communicate with their children’s academic information,” he said. “My main goal is to make things easier for parents and their busy lives. We want students, parents, teachers and the community to stay connected and informed about all the things happening at USD 207.”
The “Fort Leavenworth USD 207” app was created at no cost to the district through Xcode and Thunkable app-builder softwares. The app is now available for download through the Apple and Google Play stores.
