Thanks to the professional efforts of the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation staff — specifically Jeff Honey and Eric Chambers — and 14 wonderful volunteers, the Rod and Gun Club was blessed to have its semi-annual Hunting Dog Competition Oct. 13.
Twenty-one dogs and their handlers were given an opportunity to finalize preparations and continue their training for the upcoming 2017-2018 upland gamebird hunting season.
The event was very much a safe, fun and family-oriented event because of the superb support from our volunteer judges, bird planters and command post operators.Their hard work and enthusiasm for hunting dogs provided a safe and fun day facilitating a griffon, a drahthaar, English and Llewellen setters, Hungarian vizslas, Labrador retrievers, British and flat-coated retrievers, Brittany spaniels and German shorthair pointers to “hit” the fields.
On behalf of all the dog handlers — thank you to our Hunting Dog Competition volunteers and FMWR staff for allowing a great training event where the dogs got to display their genetic potential and get ready for the hunting season.
Yours in safe hunting with trained and healthy dogs,
    Kent Ervin and Jan Horvath
