During the monthly Unified School District 207 board meeting June 18 in the USD 207 board office, Rich Holden, chief financial officer, updated board members on the need for streetlights outside the entrances to MacArthur and Bradley Elementary Schools.
The need arose in October when a student was hit by a car outside MacArthur in the crosswalk. Though the student walked away unscathed, the needed extra safety measure was clear, Holden said.
“At MacArthur, it’s just a black hole over the main entrance especially from October to March in the mornings,” Holden said.
The new streetlights will have motion sensors and are expected to be installed and ready by the time the new schoolyear begins in August. Board approval was not needed because the cost was under $20,000.
The USD 207 School Board is still looking for new board members. See the sidebar for information on how to apply.
All board meetings are open to the community. The next USD 207 board meeting is at 4:30 p.m. July 23 at the board office. For a complete overview of the meeting and the minutes, visit https://www.boarddocs.com/ks/usd207/Board.nsf/Public.
