  • The Combined Arms Research Library will be closed Dec. 15-17, 23-25 and Dec. 30-Jan. 1. The library is running holiday hours, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on all open days Dec. 18-29.
    The Defense Military Pay Office is closed Dec. 13 for training and holiday celebrations. The office will return to normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Dec. 14.
    The national Wreaths Across America Day event is at 11 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Frontier Conference Center. After the ceremony, volunteers will head to the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery where thousands of wreaths will be placed. The event is conducted annually at hundreds of cemeteries nationwide and overseas to promote veterans’ remembrance. All are welcome to participate.     The Fort Leavenworth Tax Center is looking for volunteers for the 2018 tax season. No prior experience is necessary, volunteers receive one week of tax training from the IRS and state revenue officials at Fort Leavenworth. Call the Legal Assistance Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, at 684-4944 or Army Community Service at 684-2800 for information.
    The VISITOR CONTROL CENTER is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The facility is closed on all federal holidays except Memorial Day. After hours, visitors to Fort Leavenworth must obtain a visitor pass in advance or be escorted by a uniformed military member or spouse, a military retiree or spouse, or DoD civilian.
    Michael’s Military Housing and the Fort Leavenworth Environmental Division have partnered for the live trees program again this year. Residents who have purchased a live tree for holiday decorating (one with roots in a burlap bag) can contact Neil Bass at 684-8979 and the tree will be picked up and planted on post. Residents with cut trees can drop trees off from Dec. 26-Jan. 6 in the north parking lot by the Merritt Lake restrooms. A small area will be cordoned off with orange cones for the trees.     The National Guard members of the Command and General Staff Officer Course will observe The National Guard’s 381st birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Joint Pub in the Lewis and Clark Center.
    Child and Youth Services is offering lunch and learn programs from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month through May at Osage Child Development Center, 130 Dickman Ave. The programs will include cooking demonstrations and healthy eating tips. The programs are free for CYS parents. Sign up by noon the day before by calling 684-5138. Future program dates are Dec. 12, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8.

    The monthly mandatory post training will include face-to-face Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention training. The training is the first Wednesday of the month (except January and July 2018 when the training will be the second Wednesday.) The order of training is Suicide Prevention from 8-9 a.m., Threat Awareness Reporting Program from 9-10 a.m., SHARP from 10-11 a.m. and Army Substance Abuse Program from 11 a.m. to noon. Suicide Prevention, TARP and SHARP are yearly requirements. The requirement for ASAP is for newcomers to the installation to attend the class once. All attending must now sign-in before the start of each class with a Common Access Card. Contact Workforce Development at 684-1606 for information.
    Personnel claims for damage to household goods are handled by the U.S. Army Claims Service Center for Personnel Claims Supports in Fort Knox, Ky. The Fort Leavenworth Claims office is only available to assist claimants to effectively contact the USARCS-CPCS with a claim. For more information, contact the Claims Office at 684-4913.
    Household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the HHW Collection Point in the basement of 810 McClellan Ave. weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are also outside drop-off cabinets that can be used after hours. Products should be kept in their original containers, when possible. Household hazardous waste includes automotive products, home improvement products, paint, varnish, paint thinner, paint stripper, caulk and adhesives, pesticides, household cleaners, batteries, cosmetics, lighter fluid, and arts and crafts materials. E-waste is also accepted at the collection point, including computers, cell phones, cameras, modems, monitors, televisions, printers, game systems and general electronics. Used motor oil and antifreeze can be dropped off at the Auto Craft Center at 911 McClellan Ave. or at an off-post garage.
    The public is encouraged to submit nominations for the Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding military and civilian leaders of the U.S. armed forces who have served at Fort Leavenworth and have made a significant contribution to the achievement, tradition or history of Fort Leavenworth and the armed forces. Nominees must be deceased, discharged or retired from active-duty or civilian service at least 10 years before the nomination.     The Fort Leavenworth staff judge advocate’s legal assistance and claims offices hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays. The offices are closed on all federal and training holidays.

    The Fort Leavenworth Adjutant General’s Office ID Cards operations is now offering same-day walk-in appointments. Same-day appointments will not be offered over the phone. The AG’s office is open for appointments all day Monday through Friday, except every first Wednesday of the month and federal holidays.     The Suicide Prevention Program offers several classes to help soldiers, civilians and family members identify high-risk behaviors and apply suicide intervention skills.
