  • Soldier For Life - Transition Assistance Program workshops are mandatory for all military personnel transitioning from active-duty service. The workshops are also available to spouses of transitioning military on a space-available basis. TAP workshops are five days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.     Interagency Brown-Bag Lecture Series presentation “The Kansas City Federal Executive Board,” by Larry A. Hisle is from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Lewis and Clark Center’s Arnold Conference Room. Hisle is the executive director of the Greater Kansas City Federal Executive Board and will lead a discussion on the roles and mission of the Federal Executive Board and how it serves as a catalyst for communication, coordination and collaboration among the various federal agencies with offices in the Kansas City metropolitan area. All lectures in the series are free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch into the conference room for the presentation.
    Veterans Affairs is providing a Career technical Training workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 19-20, Feb. 8-9, April 17-18 and June 7-8 in room 131 of the Resiliency Center. The workshop helps build a personalized career development assessment of occupational interests and abilities, and participants will learn to utilize self-sustaining tools to narrow their career focus by establishing achievable career goals and self-development strategies.     The Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program offers a monthly Federal Application Seminar on submitting applications using the USAJobs website. The Civilian Personnel Advisory Center will provide instruction. The seminar covers navigating the USAJobs portal and preparing a resumé to apply for government employment. Classes are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 25, Feb. 22 and March 29 in room 131 of the Resiliency Center.     The next Entrepreneur Workshops are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 6-7, April 19-20 and June 19-20 in room 131 of the Resiliency Center. The workshop explains the basics of developing a business plan, legal and financial aspects of business ownership, advantages and disadvantages of purchasing a franchise, help available and how to overcome stress.     English as a Second Language for Spouses is 10:30 a.m. to noon every Monday and Wednesday and 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Resiliency Center. The free classes combine hands-on activities, work with a textbook using vocabulary words and illustrations and cultural learning through crafts. For more information call 684-2800.
    Become a Family Child Care provider. A free training program is offered that will guide students step-by-step through the certification process. For more information, call 684-5117.
    The U.S. Army Career Skills Program assists service members and families in finding employment as they get ready to transition out of the service. CSP is designed to provide employment skills training that includes credentialing, training, apprenticeships or internships to active-duty service members who will soon be leaving the service in hopes that these opportunities will result in job offers or provide invaluable resumé-building experiences. The program is open to all service members (with command approval) who will be within 180 days of leaving service when the program starts.     The Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program has a Transition Education Counselor in the center Tuesdays through Thursdays to assist with selecting a school or discipline, document current educational achievements and help with programs or benefits that are available after separation from active military service.
