The laboratory is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed on weekends and federal holidays. The laboratory has minimum staff on training holidays, so patients can expect delays on those days.
The laboratory collects specimens for tests on all written and electronic requests received from TRICARE providers. If the request is from a provider outside the MAHC staff, the patient must bring the proper test request or the physician’s office can fax the lab request to 684-6126. The lab test request must contain the following information: patient name and date of birth, the off-post physician’s name, address, DEA number, phone number and fax number to send the results to. Call 684-6120 for more information.
When patients are asked to fast or given “fasting labs” by a provider or nurse, they should quit eating around 8 p.m. and drink plenty of water. Come to the lab beginning at 7 a.m. to have blood drawn for fasting labs. Fasting more than 14 hours is not advised.
Active-duty soldiers can come to the lab at any time to update their HIV test for deployment or birth-month requirements. A physician or the community health nurse must request an HIV test for all other personnel and for active-duty soldiers requesting an HIV result for other reasons not listed above.
All patients ages 10 and older must present a military identification card to obtain service in the laboratory. All patients 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
The MAHC Laboratory manager coordinates on-post blood drives, which are conducted by the American Red Cross and the Community Blood Center of Kansas City on the installation. Times and location for the blood drives are posted on the American Red Cross and Community Blood Center of Kansas City websites, the marquee in front of MAHC, on Facebook and in the Munson Notes in the Fort Leavenworth Lamp.
