Unified School District 207 conducted its monthly school board meeting at the USD 207 Annex Aug 22.
Board President Myron Griswold presided over the meeting agenda. Attending were Vice President Marianne Eldridge, Superintendent Dr. Keith Mispagel, Deputy Superintendent SuAnn Grant and Cheif Financial Officer/Clerk of the Board Rich Holden.
A motion to approve rescheduling the next regular board meeting from Sept. 19 to Sept. 18 was unanimously approved to relieve a travel conflict with Mispagel’s calendar.
After collective review of the action item, Griswold made a motion that the board approved 79 field trips for the 2017-2018 schoolyear.
He made the motion with the addendum that each school include a visit to the Richard Allen Cultural Center in Leavenworth, Kan., among its field trip dates. Eldridge seconded the motion, and it also passed without dissent.
Bradley Elementary School has 12 field trips scheduled, including a visit by fifth-graders to Science City in Kansas City, Mo. Sixth-graders at Eisenhower Elementary School will visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo., among the dozen field trips during the school year.
MacArthur Elementary School kindergartners will visit the Topeka Zoo, second-graders go to the Theater for Young Americans at Union Station (Kansas City, Mo.) and the Ernie Miller Nature Center in Olathe, Kan., among nine scheduled field trips. All three elementary schools will also visit the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department and Science City in the academic year.
Patton Junior High School students will participate in 46 scheduled field trips this year including monthly competitions for its eighth- and ninth-grade debate and First Tech Challenge teams.
The Patton outings include Odyssey of the Mind creativity workshops, the Kansas State High School Activities Association Spirit Spreader Clinic for cheerleaders and coaches, and a Quantrill’s Raid walking field trip in Lawrence, Kan., for seventh-graders.
The board reviewed and approved the 2017-2018 school year final budget and July 2017 financial reports before going into its executive session.
