PTSD expert offers workshops

The Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program is sponsoring presentations by mental health expert Dr. Bridget C. Cantrell Jan. 26 and 27 at the Frontier Conference Center.
“Souls Under Siege: Effects of Multiple Troop Deployments” is designed to provide “effective tools for military personnel to readjust after experiencing the impact of combat exposure, trauma, family deployment stress and many  other readjustment issues after service overseas,” according to seminar releases.
There are six opportunities for Fort Leavenworth servicemembers and their family members 18 years of age and older to attend. The seminar will be presented 9-11 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Jan. 26; and 8-10 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 2-4 p.m. Jan. 27.

Cantrell in the president and chief executive officer of Hearts Toward Home International, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the recovery and reintegration of trauma survivors. Her primary work encompasses therapeutic counseling for war veterans and their families.
Centrell has a doctorate of philosophy in clinical psychology, is a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington, and a nationally board certified mental health counselor. She currently works as one of a small number of specially selected and trained Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs post-traumatic stress disorder specialists and provides mental health services to active-duty troops from all branches of the military, including Reservists, National Guard, their leaders and family members.
Cantrell travels extensively conducting her workshops on combat stress for the miltary and their families throughout the European and Pacific duty assignments, and is headquartered in the Pacific Northwest.  She is a member of the American Psychological Association and Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists. She sits on the board for several veteran advocacy groups.
