The Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 Board of Education reviewed the district’s bad weather policy at its regular November meeting. The following policies apply to all schools on post.
When the decision is made that schools will be open, some parents may choose to keep their children home because weather conditions may be considered marginal. Such absences will be excused and work missed may be made up without penalty.
In the event schools are closed for the day, USD 207 will make the decision no later than 6 a.m. and provide notice to all major radio and television stations in the Kansas City area by 6:15 a.m. Information will also be passed to the Installation Operations Center for posting on the installation website.
USD 207 will send out a Skylert message via telephone to all students’ households.
The announcement will be provided by 6:15 a.m. to radio stations WIBW-AM 580, KFEQ-AM 680, KMBZ-AM 980, KAIR-AM 1470, KESJ-AM 1550, KSJQ-FM 92.7, WIBW-FM 94, and KKJO-FM 105.5.
Television stations notified are WDAF Fox 4, KCTV-5, KMBC (9), WIBW TV13 (Topeka), and KSHB (41).
Parents need to listen to news broadcasts on stormy mornings and decide whether or not to send their children to school.
USD 207 will not dismiss school early — parents should know that schools will remain open.
USD 207 does not participate in delayed entry. Schools will open as usual unless closed for the day.
Any parents who feel their children should come home early may pick them up from school. Such absences will be excused and work missed can be made up without penalty.
