February is Family Child Care Amnesty Month. People providing child care on post must be certified and approved if they are caring for children in their home on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week. According to Army Regulation 608-10, all child care providers must be certified through Child, Youth and School Services Family Child Care program. Classes are monthly and certification is free. The Fort Leavenworth African-American/Black History Month celebration is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Frontier Conference Center, 350 Biddle Blvd. The cost of the luncheon is $10 and includes the guest speaker Dr. Bernadette Gray-Little, the first woman and first African-American chancellor of the University of Kansas. The Hidden Art Locked Away art sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 4, with a preview from 4-8 p.m. Feb. 3, at Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade St. in Leavenworth. The Friends of the Frontier Army Museum are looking for volunteers to fill positions for the 2012-2013 Executive Board. For the morning session, buses will depart AG at 9:05 and 9:30 a.m.; Vehicle Maintenance at 9:10 and 9:35a.m.; the Garrison Headquarters at 9:15 and 9:40 a.m.; and Transportation at 9:20 and 9:50 a.m.
For the afternoon session, buses will depart AG at 12:35 and 1 p.m.; Vehicle Maintenance at 12:40 and 1:20 p.m.; the Garrison Headquarters at 12:45 and 1:15 p.m.; and Transportation at 12:50 and 1:20 p.m.
Buses will make return trips following the meetings.

Registration for CYSS spring youth sports begins Feb. 6 and runs through March 6. The following sports are offered this season: Soccer for ages 5-15, cost is $40, season is from April 2 to May 17; Baseball for ages 5-12, cost is $40, season is from April 2 to May 17; Girls Kid Pitch Softball for ages 8-12, cost is $45, season is from April 2 to May 17; Smart Start Baseball for ages 3-5, cost is $20, season is from April 10 to May 15, with an optional participant kit for $36. The Fort Leavenworth Tax Assistance Center is open on the third floor of the Resiliency Center, 600 Thomas Ave. Weekday hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on three Saturdays: Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11. The tax center offers free preparation of federal and state tax returns for Soldiers, family members and retirees. Customers can park in designated spots in front of the Resiliency Center.
