Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities’ Community Connections Program was established to help residents create memories and experiences throughout their time at Fort Leavenworth by providing a variety of fun, free events.
Some exciting Community Connections events in the near future include a children’s holiday fun fest, children’s winter coloring contest, “Go Green” holiday decorating competition and the 12-week FLFHC Slim Down Fort Leavenworth program from January through March.
Holiday fun fest
Bring children to the FLFHC office from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Dec. 2 to decorate holiday ornaments, play holiday bingo and enjoy Christmas story time. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
Coloring contest
The children’s winter coloring contest sheets are available online at www.ftleavenworthfamilyhous-ing.com and at the FLFHC office located at 549 Kearney Ave. All entries must be submitted by Dec. 29. Winners will receive a prize and have their artwork published in the January FLFHC Newsletter.
‘Go Green’ contest
FLFHC representatives will patrol villages on Fort Leavenworth in search of three families to be awarded this year’s “Go Green” best holiday display starting Dec. 12. The “Go Green” competition promotes energy conservation during the holidays — winners will use little to no electricity in their displays. Winners will be chosen Dec. 16.
For more information on holiday display guidelines, refer to the Resident Guidelines and Community Handbook. Handbooks are available at the FLFHC office at 549 Kearney Ave. or online at www.ftleavenworthfamilyhousing .com.
Slim down challenge
Grab a friend and come to the 2012 Slim Down Fort Leavenworth Challenge kick-off event from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Gruber Fitness. Marci Sedwick, a registered and licensed dietitian from Munson Army Health Center, will give a presentation on diet and healthy eating. Registration begins Dec. 19 in the FLFHC office.
Toys for Tots
FLFHC has a Toys for Tots box in the waiting room of the main offices at 549 Kearney Ave. through Dec.14 to support the efforts of Fort Leavenworth Marines. Bring new, unwrapped toys to the FLFHC office for donation.
Holiday closure
FLFHC offices will be closed Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday. Normal business hours will resume Dec. 27.

Utilities tip
Put a crease in your ironing. Take clothes out of the dryer and fold or hang them up while they are still warm to prevent wrinkling. Irons are one of the biggest energy consumers — this will shorten your ironing time and help with energy conservation.
