Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities’ Community Connections Program was established to assist residents in creating memories and experiences throughout their time at Fort Leavenworth by providing a variety of fun, free events. Upcoming Community Connections events include the free family movie night and the Hallo’weenie Roast.
Free family movie night
The third annual free family movie night presentation starts at 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Post Theater. The featured presentation is Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh.” The film is rated G and approximately 65 minutes long. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. There is no RSVP required for this event.
Halloweenie Roast
Be sure to join FLFHC and the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department for the fifth annual Hallo’weenie Roast. This fun, free event is 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at Fire Station No. 2 on Biddle Boulevard across from the golf course. Bring your little ghosts and goblins and enjoy free hotdogs, chips, drinks and a costume contest. Pets will also have an opportunity to participate and win some treats.
Office contest
Stop by the FLFHC offices at 549 Kearney Ave. between Oct. 1-27 to participate in the Halloween office contest. Guess how many Halloween treats are in the jar and have a chance at winning it. The winner will be announced Oct. 29.
Yard of the Month
The final FLFHC Yard of the Month contest will be judged at the end of September with the three winning families taking the award for the month of October. The Yard of the Month contest will resume in May. But don’t stop decorating. In December, FLFHC will host a “Go Green” holiday decorating contest. Winners will be chosen during the week of Christmas. This contest will be based on decorations that do not require electricity, such as snow or garlands.

Renters insurance
FLFHC provides renter’s insurance at a baseline coverage for no extra charge. This insurance policy can assist with flood damage, severe weather damage or any accidental damages that can take place inside an FLFHC home. This policy consists of personal property coverage of $20,000, per incident deductible of $250 and liability insurance of $100,000.
Though residents are covered with the insurance as part of their lease, FLFHC recommends all residents maintain additional renter’s insurance to supplement the insurance provided by FLFHC.
Utilities tip
When disconnecting a cord, always grasp the plug, not the wire. Keep cords away from heat, liquids and sharp edges.
