With many new families arriving, Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities would like to remind all residents of its Super Saver Program. The Super Saver Program was introduced by FLFHC in July 2009 as a way to reward residents of Fort Leavenworth who make tangible efforts to conserve energy in their homes. Since its inception, 19 families have had the title of Super Saver of the Month. As recipients of this honor, each family received an award certificate, $25 Army and Air Force Exchange Service gift card and the privilege of displaying the Super Saver of the Month sign in their yard, weather permitting.
Congratulations to the North family of Shawnee Village, Super Saver of the Month winners for December. The North family will be awarded with a Super Saver of the Month certificate as well as a $25 AAFES gift card for their hard work and efforts that they have contributed to conserving natural resources. Small changes such as shortening bath/shower time and using their laundry machines efficiently made them the deserving winners for December’s Super Saver of the Month.
All monthly winners from May to the following April are entered in the Super Saver of the Year drawing. Last year, the Moree family became the second Super Saver of the Year family. With donations from the Kansas City T-Bones, Schlitterbahn Waterpark and others, the Moree family received a prize pack worth almost $700.
To participate, residents must nominate themselves by completing the Super Saver nomination form, which can be found on the FLFHC website at www.ftleaven-worthfamilyhousing.com. Bring the form and a copy of the most recent Minol statement to the FLFHC office at 549 Kearney Ave., attention Katie Grindel, by the 25th of the month.

The children’s winter coloring contest sheets are available online at www.ftleavenworthfamilyhous-ing.com and at the FLFHC office at 549 Kearney Ave. All entries must be submitted by Dec. 29. Winners will receive a prize and have their artwork published in the January FLFHC Newsletter.
‘Go Green’ contest
FLFHC representatives will patrol villages on Fort Leavenworth in search of three families to be awarded this year’s “Go Green” best holiday display starting Dec. 12. The “Go Green” competition promotes energy conservation during the holidays — winners will use little to no electricity in their displays. Winners will be chosen Dec. 16.

Utilities tip
Use sunlight wisely. During the heating season, leave shades and blinds open on sunny days, but close them at night to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows. Close shades and blinds during the summer or whenever using the air conditioner.
