Many children are now back in school and taking part in outdoor activities. Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities would like to remind residents that complying with all speed and traffic regulations is a priority for the safety of everyone.
Here are a few tips to help keep children safe in the community:
- Always be alert: Drivers should expect pedestrians on sidewalks and in traffic crossings.
- Be prepared: When driving through school zones or heavily populated areas leave earlier to avoid being rushed.
- Comply with traffic signs: Do not drive through a crosswalk until all children are visible and on the side of the street they need to be on.
- Ditch distractions: Only use electronics when parked.
- Care: When driving through housing areas, drive as you would expect other parents to drive if your children were partaking in outdoor activities.
While military police patrol the villages to enforce traffic laws, they cannot be everywhere at all times. It is important for everyone’s safety to follow the law even when no one is watching.

Utilities tip
Use a microwave oven whenever feasible for cooking. It draws less than half the power of its conventional oven counterpart and cooks for a much shorter amount of time.
