The military lifestyle can be spontaneous with constant change from place to place. Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities has housing procedures in place to make the transitions as stress-free as possible.
One of the FLFHC procedures is a 20- to 30-minute inspection. Inspections are required at both the time of move-in and move-out. The following is an overview of the FLFHC inspection process.
Once the resident has selected or signed for the home, a move-in inspection is scheduled. New residents should ensure someone 18 years of age or older will be home at the time and date scheduled so the FLFHC housing inspector can complete the inspection.
The housing inspector will walk through the resident’s home with the resident and note the condition of the interior and exterior of the home. Once the move-in inspection is completed, an inspection form will be signed by both the resident and housing inspector detailing the condition of the home at the time the resident moved in. The resident will be provided with a copy of this form for his or her records.
The same signed move-in form is used during the resident’s move-out inspection, to compare it with the condition of the departing resident’s home. If the resident move-in inspection is not completed because the resident is not home during the inspection’s scheduled time, the resident is bound by the most recent inspection on file.
When a resident gives a 30-day notice to vacate, two inspections are scheduled: a pre-move-out inspection and a move-out inspection. The resident is provided with written instructions on minimum standards of cleanliness and required conditions.
These two inspections are as important as the move-in inspection, and residents need to ensure they can be present at the scheduled times and dates.
The pre-inspection is scheduled 10-14 days before the move-out inspection. During the pre-inspection, the housing inspector visits the home and lists all resident responsibilities, repairs that need to be done and provides a list of charges for possible damages that the resident may be responsible for at the time of move-out.
The resident move-out inspection should be scheduled on a day that the home will be clear of all personal belongings — nothing should remain in the home. The housing inspector will use the resident’s signed move-in inspection form for the move-out inspection. The condition of the home will be noted and charges may be accessed for any damage beyond normal wear and tear, and the resident will be made aware of any charges that are assessed.
Upon completing the move-out inspection process to a satisfactory standard, the housing inspector will collect all keys, including house keys, mailbox keys and garage door openers as well as any payment that may be due for items such as damages, prorated utilities, and/or prorated rent. Once all requirements have been met, the resident will be provided with a termination of housing notice, which is needed to clear housing.
