Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities would like to thank all who participated in the office and community contests in August. FLFHC encourages everyone to be involved within the villages and the community to continue to make Fort Leavenworth “the best hometown in the Army.”
FLFHC would also like thank the Fort Leavenworth community for being proactive and involved with residents who are new to the area as well as those facing the deployment of their service member.
Super Saver of Month
Congratulations to the Schilling family of Kickapoo Village, Super Saver of the Month winners for September. Some helpful adjustments that the Schillings have made include setting their thermostat to 77 degrees, keeping their blinds and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day, unplugging unnecessary electronics such as hair dryers and cell phone chargers, and fully shutting down all electronics when they are not in use. Participating in the Super Saver of the Month contest has given them a way to make energy conserving adjustments throughout without taking away from their comfort. They hope to encourage other families to do the same.
Families can nominate themselves for the Super Saver of the Month award by the 25th of each month. Residents can bring a copy of their most recent utilities statement and a Super Saver of the Month nomination form to the FLFHC office to enter the competition. Forms are available at the FLFHC office or online at www.ftleavenworthfamilyhousing .com.
Super Saver winners are presented with a certificate, a $25 Army and Air Force Exchange Service gift card and a sign to display in their yard.
Questions about the Super Saver program or the Utility Conservation Program can be directed to FLFHC Operations Coordinator Katie Grindel by calling (913) 565-9807 or e-mail utilities@mmhusa.com.
Yard of Month
The Yard of the Month program is another opportunity for residents to not only spruce up their home but to be recognized for their efforts. Each month, from May through November, FLFHC will feature the yards of three residents from different villages throughout post. Winners are chosen based on the use of color, ornaments and plans in their front yard and porch area. Winners receive a certificate, a $25 AAFES gift card, a Yard of the Month sign to display in their yard and recognition in the FLFHC newsletter. Winners are chosen based on the use of color, ornaments and plants in their front yard and porch.
Winning families for the month of June were the Benson family of Main Post, the Farrell family of Iowa Village and the Huggard family of Main Post. Photos of these yards can be found in the Community Connections resident newsletter on the FLFHC website, www.ftleavenworthfamilyhousing .com.
